University of Central Arkansas invites Walter Block
The University of Central Arkansas has invited Dr. Walter Block, Ph.D., Harold E. Wirth Eminent Scholar Endowed Chair and Professor of Economics, in the College of Business to a panel discussion on education reform at the University of Central Arkansas on Wednesday, February 20.
Reforms enacted in Arkansas during this decade include the expansion of charter schools; fewer K-12 districts; increased transparency, including a uniform system of school accounting; and use of performance measures for administrators and teachers. Other reforms to be discussed at the forum include district letter grades based on student performance, school choice, vouchers, a tax-credit system, and education under a full free-enterprise system.

Lee J. Yao, Ph.D. is the new College of Business accounting program director. Yao has been hired as the Father Joseph A. Butt, S.J. Distinguished Professor in Accounting. As accounting program director, Yao is initiating a major restructuring of the bachelor of accountancy degree. Substantial changes will be made to the degree, emphasizing forensic accounting and management control that will be more aligned with the Loyola mission. Under Yao’s expertise, Loyola is aiming for the revised accounting program to become one of the most competitive programs in the region, if not the nation. A minor of accounting will also be introduced so that students from all five colleges can benefit from learning aspects of accounting.
