Visiting Assistant Professor of Finance
Selma Izadi joined Loyola University of New Orleans in spring 2016 after she earned her PhD in the field of Financial Economics from the University of New Orleans in December 2015. Her dissertation includes two essays in portfolio management and hedging effectiveness in commodity and stock markets, as well as determining the local and international factors that affect Sovereign bond spreads in Global Developed Countries.
Selma has a bachelor degree in Applied Mathematics and she earned a MBA in Finance from Alzahra University of Tehran. She has over 6 years of progressive work experience in the Tehran stock exchange as a Mutual Fund Manager, Stock Broker and Investment Analyst. During this period, she applied appropriate principles of valuation for major financial assets and securities and engaged in research to evaluate if investment and financial policies maximized firm value. Dr. Izadi applies stock market professional experience to class lessons so students learn how to analyze companies and make optimal decisions by completing real world projects.
She has also achieved high quality certifications relevant to teaching improvement including 104 workshop hours in Financial and Investment Analysis based on CFA, Bloomberg Market Concept, Financial Modeling Using Excel, Risk Management and Modeling, Future Contracts License, Technical Analyst in Financial Markets and Principles of Stock Market.
Since 2009, Dr. Izadi has taught several Finance courses at the undergraduate and MBA level. She also has experience teaching online and hybrid classes. Her research interests include investment, financial markets and institutions, international finance and portfolio management. She has published two college mathematics textbooks for entrance examinations into Iranian universities as well as several scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals. She actively participated in academic conferences as a committee member, session chair, discussant and presenter. Dr. Izadi serves as Advisory Editor for The Iranian Journal of Finance.
Selma moved to New Orleans in 2011 and has embraced the local culture. She, her husband and two young daughters enjoy the unique year round festivals and events, from Mardi Gras to Christmas bonfires along the levee. Her youngest daughter, Eden, born on May 12th, 2018, one day after her mom participated in the COB award ceremony and crawfish party at Loyola!
