  • February 3, 1977 to Present: Notary Public for Orleans Parish, Louisiana.
  • July, 1977 to August, 1978: General private practice of law in the New Orleans area, including corporate as well as general civil matters.
  • November, 1976 to July, 1977: Attorney for Mid Louisiana Gas Company, a natural gas producer and interstate gas transporter. Duties included drafting gas purchase and transportation contracts as well as other commercial contracts; contract negotiation and administration; preparation of pleadings and personally representing the company before the Federal Power Commission in Washington, D.C.; administration of employee retirement and welfare benefit plans; administration of the company's EEO, OSHA and pipeline safety programs; corporate litigation; general legal research and advice for corporate matters.
  • July, 1974 to November, 1976: Staff Attorney for New Orleans Public Service, Inc. Duties included negotiation and drafting of various contracts; advice concerning various labor problems; corporate litigation; analysis of proposed local, state and federal legislation with regard to the company's interests; advice as to the probable outcome of company litigation before the Louisiana State Supreme Court; general legal research and advice for corporate matters.
  • June, 1973 to July, 1974: Law Clerk for Associate Justice Walter F. Marcus, Jr. of the Louisiana State Supreme Court. Duties included thorough legal research; preparation and drafting writ reports, opinion reports and rehearing reports as well as assisting Justice Marcus in his other judicial duties.
  • July, 1972 to June, 1973: General private practice of law in the Baton Rouge area, including succession matters, family law matters, personal injury litigation and criminal defense work.
  • April, 1970 to July, 1972: Staff Attorney for the Louisiana Legislative Council. Duties included statutory drafting and research; advising legislators; drafting legislative committee reports and employing a thorough knowledge of the legislative process.
  • Summer, 1969: Assistant to the Legislative Research and Reform Attorney of the Baton Rouge Legal Aid Society.
  • Summer, 1968: Engaged in a project under the auspices of the Ford Foundation resulting in fieldwork research at Louisiana mental institutions, e.g., the Forensic Unit of the East Louisiana State Mental Hospital at Jackson. Objective: Protection of the constitutional rights of those persons declared to be insane at the time of trial.
