Business Professor and Higher Education Leader Appointed Interim President

The Rev. William J. Byron, S.J., was appointed interim president on October 8 after the Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of the Rev. Bernard P. Knoth, S.J, who had served as president since 1995.

Most recently serving as research professor at the Sellinger School of Business at Loyola College of Baltimore, Byron has had a long and distinguished career as an executive in Catholic higher education. He has served as dean of Loyola’s College of Arts and Sciences (1973 - 1975), president of the University of Scranton (1975 - 1982), and president of The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. (1982 - 1992). He writes a syndicated biweekly column, "Looking Around," for Catholic News Service.

States Interim President Byron, "I accept this responsibility with enthusiasm for Loyola—its past, present, and future….I’m eager to learn and ready to serve."

Byron will serve as interim president until a permanent president is in place. The Board of Trustees appointed a search committee in November.
