Mike Fakier

Michael was born in Houma, LA. He graduated from Vandebilt Catholic High School and was a member of the 1971 AA State Baseball Champion team coached by Brian Gueniot!

He received his B.S. degree in Accounting from Nicholls State University in 1975. Michael went on to work for J. Ray McDermott from 1975 to 1997, first as an accountant and then in sales and marketing. While at McDermott, Michael became a certified Total Quality Management (TQM) Trainer and Facilitator and helped McDermott receive its ISO-9000 status in 1992.

In 1999, he became co-owner and CFO of Southland Steel & Supply, LLC, where he has since semi-retired from the company. He also holds a Series 6 Securities License and works part-time in the insurance and investment industry.

Michael is currently the Chairman of the Terrebonne General Medical Center Board of Commissioners where he has served for 14 years. In 2011, he was the driving force to establish The Foundation for TGMC, a nonprofit organization created to serve as the philanthropic branch of the hospital. Mike is a board member for The Foundation for TGMC in addition to his role on the Board of Commissioners, and he is also responsible for recruiting the 10-member board for The Foundation.

Michael is also a current member of the United Way for South Louisiana Board of Directors, a role he has held for the last 20 years. In this time, he has served as the United Way’s President from 1998-2000 and as Campaign Chair in 2009. He additionally is a member of the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce.

He is a New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans season ticketholder and enjoys playing golf in his spare time. He belongs to the Nicholls State University Foundation and the Colonels Athletic Association, which helps raise money for the University and its athletic programs.

Michael is married to the former Ellen Alba, and they have one daughter, Lauren.
