Dr. Jose Bautista is an instructor of Economics at the College of Business. He teaches the undergraduate course in International Economics as well as the Microeconomics course. He was born in Manila, Philippines and has resided in New York and Barcelona, Spain prior to moving to New Orleans. His Ph.D. from Tulane in 1987 was in the area of Public Choice Theory modeling the evolution of dictatorial political systems from previous two-party democracies.

Besides Public Choice theory, Dr. Bautista’s research interests are in Religion and Economics, Economic Methodology, Economic Education.  He was an Associate Editor for the International Journal for Interdisciplinary Social Sciences. His research has been presented at the Allied Social Sciences Meetings, the Public Choice Society Meetings, and Interdisciplinary Social Science Meetings.  He is active in local community having served on the Board of Directors of the Catholic Community Foundation and the Board of Directors of Notre Dame Seminary.

He is married to Imelda Bautista, M.D. They have two daughters.
